Golden Light
The daylight worth going outside for, and when to expect it.
There are two stretches of good light every day. One starts at sunrise and the other ends shortly before sunset. Where they fall depends on exactly where you are standing, and Golden Light works that out, so a walk, a run or ten minutes outside can be planned rather than guessed.

What it is
Two windows a day, worked out for where you actually are
Golden hour is not an hour and it is not the same for everyone. Golden Light calculates both of the day's windows from your latitude and longitude, then tells you when the next one starts and how long you have.
The morning window
Starts at sunrise. Low, warm light with the sun close to the horizon. It falls in the part of the day most people are asleep through.
The evening window
Ends shortly before sunset. The same geometry in reverse, and usually the easier of the two to actually get to after a working day.
Both windows stretch and shrink through the year, and the further you live from the equator the more they move. The seven-day outlook is there so a week can be planned around them.
What the sky is doing
A free hour in the calendar is not the same as a good hour outside
Knowing when the window falls is only half of it. Turn weather on and Golden Light shows the forecast for each window where you are, so you can see what the sky is expected to do before you head out. It reports the forecast and leaves the judgement to you.
What weather adds
- The conditions forecast for the window, in a word or two
- The temperature
- The cloud cover
- From MET Norway, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute
- Off until you turn it on, and off again whenever you want
What it is not
- A rating of the light, or a measurement of anything
- A reading taken from you, your skin or your device
- A guarantee. Forecasts move, and the app says so
Your location coordinates, truncated to three decimal places, go to MET Norway to fetch the forecast, and MET Norway can see your IP address. The golden-hour times are still worked out on your device.

Worth being straight about
What Golden Light will not tell you
Not medical advice. Golden Light works out when the light falls and, if you ask it to, what the forecast is for that window. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent anything, and it does not measure anything about you.
Good light is not safe sun. Check the UV index where you are, and cover up, seek shade and use sunscreen when it is 3 or above. A bright, clear window is exactly when UV is highest.
If anything here reads as a promise about your health, we have written it badly and would like to know.

It runs in the browser, works out where you are if you let it, and can be added to a phone home screen or installed on a desktop. Nothing to sign up for, and not medical advice.
